This Year 1 maths activity for NSPCC Number Day helps children practise counting in ones and twos through an engaging footprint-themed task. Children study images showing sets of footprints and work out the total number by choosing an appropriate counting strategy. The resource includes two separate counting activities , encouraging children to apply skip counting in twos as well as counting in ones. It supports number fluency, careful observation and early reasoning skills while giving pupils opportunities to explain how they reached their answers. Ideal for Year 1 classrooms , this activity is perfect for celebrating NSPCC Number Day in February while reinforcing key maths skills in a fun, visual and accessible way.
Show lessThe standard small step pack, as her own modules ship it. We do not print page counts here, because her catalogue does not publish them and a guessed number is worse than none.
Her own system, with the star count repeated in every worksheet header so a child can be handed the right sheet without a word.

“Good value, and the answers are actually on it.”
Small thing, but half the free sheets online expect you to work the answers out yourself. My TA can run a group on this without a briefing first.

“Fine, though the font is small for my class.”
The maths is right and the sequence is sensible. Several of my children needed it enlarged to A3, which is easy enough but worth knowing before you print thirty.
