Celebrate autumn and boost visual perception skills with this EYFS Pumpkin Matching activity! Designed as a fun, hands-on learning tool, this resource encourages children to look closely at different pumpkins and find the matching pairs. Learners compare the pumpkins’ colours, shapes, and facial features , then draw lines to join those that are the same — helping them develop observation, attention to detail, and early reasoning skills. Aligned with Development Matters and Birth to 5 Matters , this activity supports the early learning goal: “Talk about and identify the patterns around them. For example: stripes on clothes, designs on rugs and wallpaper. Use informal language like ‘pointy’, ‘spotty’, ‘blobs’, etc.” Perfect for Nursery and Reception children, it’s ideal for exploring patterns and similarities in a playful autumn or Halloween-themed context. Simply print, laminate, and reuse to make it a durable, engaging addition to your continuous provision or maths area.

The maths is right and the sequence is sensible. Several of my children needed it enlarged to A3, which is easy enough but worth knowing before you print thirty.
