About this resource

Develop secure understanding of place value and subtraction with this SATs Practice: Subtracting Powers of 10 , a focused maths resource designed to support Year 6 pupils preparing for KS2 SATs . This resource specifically targets subtraction where pupils must subtract powers of 10 from numbers that include zeros , including 10, 100, 1,000, 10,000 and 100,000 , as well as challenging examples such as 1,000,000 minus a power of 10 . These question types regularly appear in SATs papers and often expose misconceptions around zeros and place value. Pupils are required to: Subtract powers of 10 accurately Adjust the correct digit while maintaining place value Navigate numbers with multiple zeros Avoid common errors when crossing zero Work efficiently without formal written algorithms The questions are carefully structured to reflect the style, layout and difficulty of SATs questions , supporting pupils in developing speed, accuracy and confidence. This Year 6 SATs place value resource is ideal for: SATs revision and consolidation Place value and subtraction lessons Maths booster or intervention groups Independent practice or homework Addressing common misconceptions Key Learning Benefits Strengthens understanding of place value and powers of 10 Develops fluency in subtraction involving zeros Improves accuracy and mathematical confidence Familiarises pupils with SATs-style questions Encourages efficient mental strategies and checking Aligned with the KS2 National Curriculum and SATs expectations, this low-prep resource provides high-impact practice in a critical assessment area. The standard small step pack, as her own modules ship it. We do not print page counts here, because her catalogue does not publish them and a guessed number is worse than none.

★★★ Differentiated three ways
  • Working towardsScaffolded, with the model or the bar already drawn.
  • Working withinThe expected standard for the year group.
  • Greater depthReasoning and explaining, not just more of the same.

Her own system, with the star count repeated in every worksheet header so a child can be handed the right sheet without a word.

The editable file is why we renewed.

Being able to change two questions for the child who joined us in January, without rebuilding the whole sheet, is worth the subscription on its own.

Good value, and the answers are actually on it.

Small thing, but half the free sheets online expect you to work the answers out yourself. My TA can run a group on this without a briefing first.

Fine, though the font is small for my class.

The maths is right and the sequence is sensible. Several of my children needed it enlarged to A3, which is easy enough but worth knowing before you print thirty.
