About this resource

This Spring themed EYFS Codebreaker is a fun and engaging early literacy activity designed to support letter recognition, phonics, and early spelling skills . Using a simple picture-to-letter code, children match each symbol to the correct letter and write the corresponding letters to decode a short spring-themed phrase. This resource is ideal for EYFS children who are confident recognising and forming single letters , making it suitable for small-group work, phonics sessions, or independent challenges. The clear visuals support children in making connections between pictures and letters while encouraging careful observation, problem solving, and early reading confidence. Children complete the activity by writing letters beneath the images across three tables before attempting to read the decoded phrase , creating a sense of achievement and purpose. The spring theme adds engagement and makes the resource ideal for seasonal learning or linked provision activities. This low-prep resource is perfect for teachers looking for an EYFS codebreaker activity that develops early literacy skills in a playful and accessible way.Read more

The standard small step pack, as her own modules ship it. We do not print page counts here, because her catalogue does not publish them and a guessed number is worse than none.

★★★ Differentiated three ways
  • Working towardsScaffolded, with the model or the bar already drawn.
  • Working withinThe expected standard for the year group.
  • Greater depthReasoning and explaining, not just more of the same.

Her own system, with the star count repeated in every worksheet header so a child can be handed the right sheet without a word.

Matches our White Rose planning almost week for week.

I stopped adapting things from three different sites and now start here. The odd week does not line up exactly, but the small step it covers is always somewhere in the same block.

The editable file is why we renewed.

Being able to change two questions for the child who joined us in January, without rebuilding the whole sheet, is worth the subscription on its own.

Good value, and the answers are actually on it.

Small thing, but half the free sheets online expect you to work the answers out yourself. My TA can run a group on this without a briefing first.
