This EYFS 3D Shape Matching resource supports young children in recognising and naming common 3D shapes by linking them to familiar everyday toys. Children look closely at each toy and match it to its corresponding 3D shape name. This hands-on activity helps children make meaningful real-world connections, strengthening early mathematical understanding through play. Ideal for Reception and Nursery settings, the activity encourages children to use mathematical vocabulary, describe shapes, and talk about the features they notice. It can be used as a whole-class carpet activity, in small groups, or as an independent challenge during continuous provision. Teachers can laminate the cards for repeated use or use the resource as part of a maths area focused on shape, space, and measure.
