About this resource

This comprehensive End of Unit Assessment: Length, Height and Time resource is designed for Early Years learners to assess and strengthen their understanding of measurement and time concepts. Aligned with White Rose small steps, this practical and discussion-based assessment supports children in developing key mathematical vocabulary and comparative reasoning skills. The resource focuses on comparing and describing length and height using language such as long, short, taller, shorter, longest and shortest . Children are encouraged to explore objects visually and practically, making comparisons and explaining their reasoning with adult support. Assessment activities include: Identifying and comparing long and short objects Recognising tall and short items Ordering objects by length Finding objects that are shorter or longer than a given example Using mathematical vocabulary accurately in context In addition to measurement, the resource also assesses early understanding of time. Pupils are given opportunities to: Name and order the days of the week Discuss daily routines (e.g. what happens on Saturdays) Identify the current day Explore simple time intervals through practical challenges (e.g. writing their name in one minute or completing star jumps in 30 seconds) Develop early estimation skills The assessment is designed to be practical and interactive. Children should work alongside an adult and use hands-on resources where appropriate. Slides can be printed and laminated for repeated use, ensuring durability and value for money. A blank assessment template is included to record observations, outcomes and next steps. Ideal for Reception classrooms, early years practitioners, home educators and intervention groups, this resource supports mastery approaches and provides meaningful evidence for end-of-unit assessment within the White Rose “Length, Height and Time” unit. A practical and engaging maths assessment tool to support early measurement and time understanding.Read more

The standard small step pack, as her own modules ship it. We do not print page counts here, because her catalogue does not publish them and a guessed number is worse than none.

★★★ Differentiated three ways
  • Working towardsScaffolded, with the model or the bar already drawn.
  • Working withinThe expected standard for the year group.
  • Greater depthReasoning and explaining, not just more of the same.

Her own system, with the star count repeated in every worksheet header so a child can be handed the right sheet without a word.
