This practical and engaging End of Unit Assessment: Sharing and Grouping resource is designed for Early Years learners to develop and demonstrate their understanding of early multiplication and division concepts through hands-on activities. Aligned with White Rose small steps, this assessment supports children in exploring equal sharing, grouping, doubles and odd and even numbers. Through practical problem-solving and adult-led discussion, pupils are encouraged to use concrete resources such as counters, cubes, dominos and everyday objects to model mathematical thinking. The activities focus on building secure foundations in equal groups and repeated addition, preparing children for more formal multiplication learning in Key Stage 1. Assessment tasks include: Sharing objects equally between groups (e.g. animals, bears) Identifying whether groups can be shared equally Completing number sentences about totals and equal groups Grouping objects into sets (e.g. groups of 2) Finding doubles using domino patterns Solving practical grouping problems (e.g. decorating biscuits with buttons) Identifying odd and even numbers Completing and recalling doubles facts to 12 The resource encourages reasoning and mathematical discussion, helping children explain how they know whether groups are equal and how many groups can be made. This makes it ideal for adult-supported assessment and observational evidence gathering. Slides can be printed and laminated for repeated use, ensuring durability and long-term value. A blank assessment template is included to record outcomes, misconceptions and next steps, supporting effective formative assessment practice. Perfect for Reception classrooms, early years practitioners, home educators and intervention groups, this resource provides meaningful evidence for end-of-unit assessment within the White Rose “Sharing and Grouping” unit. It supports mastery teaching approaches and builds strong conceptual understanding of early multiplication concepts
Show lessThe standard small step pack, as her own modules ship it. We do not print page counts here, because her catalogue does not publish them and a guessed number is worse than none.
Her own system, with the star count repeated in every worksheet header so a child can be handed the right sheet without a word.
