About this resource

This Year 3 New Year–Themed Wordsearch is a fun and purposeful literacy activity designed to support spelling accuracy, vocabulary development and sentence writing at the start of the spring term. Pupils search for New Year–related vocabulary hidden horizontally, vertically and diagonally (forwards only) , making the activity accessible and appropriate for Year 3 learners , while still offering challenge for Year 4 . Once the words are located, children apply their understanding by choosing words to use in their own sentences, supporting SPaG objectives and contextual language use. This resource is ideal for: SPaG lessons Early finishers Morning work Homework Low-prep January activities The vocabulary focuses on meaningful seasonal language, including celebrate, countdown, tradition, reflection, promise and memories , helping pupils explore the concept of New Year in a literacy-rich way. An answer sheet is included to support quick marking and independent checking.Read more

  • Working withinThe expected standard for the year group.
  • Greater depthReasoning and explaining, not just more of the same.

Her own system, with the star count repeated in every worksheet header so a child can be handed the right sheet without a word.
