About this resource

Strengthen early number sense in EYFS with this interactive Maths Resource Pack, focusing on conceptual subitising to 10. Conceptual subitising is the ability to see larger groups as smaller, structured parts—for example, recognising 8 as “5 and 3” or 10 as “6 and 4.” This pack introduces Reception pupils to conceptual subitising through engaging slides, dot patterns, and practical activities. Children are encouraged to look at groups of up to 10 objects, spot smaller patterns within them, and quickly determine the total without counting in ones. By exploring part–whole relationships (such as 7 being “5 and 2” or “4 and 3”), pupils develop fluency, strengthen number bond knowledge, and lay firm foundations for addition and subtraction. Independent tasks encourage children to explain how they saw the number, supporting flexible thinking and deep understanding of numbers to 10. What’s Included in the Pack? ✔ Teaching slides introducing conceptual subitising up to 10 ✔ Visual dot and object patterns to encourage part–whole thinking ✔ Guided examples showing different ways of seeing numbers ✔ Independent exploration tasks with cards and classroom resources ✔ A plenary recap to share strategies and consolidate learning Why Teachers Love This Pack: ✔ Designed for Reception / EYFS statutory maths outcomes ✔ Builds number bond knowledge and early calculation strategies ✔ Interactive, visual, and practical—no worksheets required ✔ Flexible for whole-class lessons, small groups, or continuous provision Curriculum Links: This pack supports the EYFS Statutory Framework for Mathematics by helping children: ✔ Subitise groups of up to 10 by recognising smaller patterns ✔ Develop part–whole understanding and number bonds within 10 ✔ Build fluency and flexibility for early addition and subtraction Whether you’re introducing conceptual subitising to 10 or reinforcing number bonds, this resource provides fun, interactive, and effective early maths practice. The standard small step pack, as her own modules ship it. We do not print page counts here, because her catalogue does not publish them and a guessed number is worse than none.

★★★ Differentiated three ways
  • Working towardsScaffolded, with the model or the bar already drawn.
  • Working withinThe expected standard for the year group.
  • Greater depthReasoning and explaining, not just more of the same.

Her own system, with the star count repeated in every worksheet header so a child can be handed the right sheet without a word.
