What this means, in plain words

Two fractions are equivalent when they are worth the same amount even though the numbers look different, such as one half and two quarters.

A number line puts numbers in order along a line, evenly spaced, so larger and smaller can be seen rather than worked out.

A fraction describes part of a whole, or part of a set, once the whole has been split into equal pieces.
