n this Working Without Worksheets lesson, Year 1 pupils explore how to compare the length and height of objects using accurate mathematical vocabulary. Through hands-on exploration, children learn to describe and compare objects as longer, shorter, taller, or smaller , developing essential early measurement skills. Using everyday classroom items and clear visual modelling, this interactive lesson helps children understand that comparisons are only fair when objects are lined up from the same starting point. The lesson promotes discussion, reasoning, and vocabulary development — all without the need for worksheets. “Fine, though the font is small for my class.”
The maths is right and the sequence is sensible. Several of my children needed it enlarged to A3, which is easy enough but worth knowing before you print thirty.

“Printed it at eight on a Sunday and taught it on the Monday.”
No editing, no reformatting, no hunting for the answers. The three levels are on separate pages, which sounds obvious until you have used the sites where they are not.
