About this resource

Help your Year 2 pupils develop confidence and flexibility with addition using this Maths Resource Pack, focusing on solving problems with both mental and written methods. Designed to meet National Curriculum objectives, this pack equips children with strategies to choose and apply the most efficient method when tackling addition problems. Through clear teaching slides, worked examples, and practical activities, pupils practise mental strategies such as counting on, using number bonds, and partitioning, alongside written strategies including number lines and column addition. Real-life problem-solving contexts are included to make learning meaningful and engaging. Independent tasks encourage children to select methods independently, explain their reasoning, and check their answers. A plenary recap brings the class together to reflect on which strategies worked best and why, building metacognitive awareness and problem-solving confidence. What’s Included in the Pack? ✔ Teaching slides introducing mental and written addition strategies ✔ Step-by-step worked examples with clear explanations ✔ Differentiated practice activities for a range of abilities ✔ Real-life word problems to apply methods in context ✔ Independent tasks encouraging method selection and reasoning ✔ A plenary recap to consolidate strategies and reflect on learning Why Teachers Love This Pack: ✔ Fully aligned with the Year 2 National Curriculum for Maths ✔ Differentiated to support all learners, from fluency to reasoning ✔ Encourages independence in selecting appropriate strategies ✔ Perfect for whole-class lessons, group work, interventions, or SATs prep Curriculum Links: This pack supports the Year 2 National Curriculum for Mathematics by helping pupils: ✔ Solve addition problems using mental and written methods ✔ Apply knowledge of number bonds, place value, and written strategies ✔ Explain reasoning and evaluate the efficiency of different methods Whether you’re introducing addition strategies or pRead more

The standard small step pack, as her own modules ship it. We do not print page counts here, because her catalogue does not publish them and a guessed number is worse than none.

★★★ Differentiated three ways
  • Working towardsScaffolded, with the model or the bar already drawn.
  • Working withinThe expected standard for the year group.
  • Greater depthReasoning and explaining, not just more of the same.

Her own system, with the star count repeated in every worksheet header so a child can be handed the right sheet without a word.

Printed it at eight on a Sunday and taught it on the Monday.

No editing, no reformatting, no hunting for the answers. The three levels are on separate pages, which sounds obvious until you have used the sites where they are not.

Matches our White Rose planning almost week for week.

I stopped adapting things from three different sites and now start here. The odd week does not line up exactly, but the small step it covers is always somewhere in the same block.

The editable file is why we renewed.

Being able to change two questions for the child who joined us in January, without rebuilding the whole sheet, is worth the subscription on its own.
