About this resource

Working Without Worksheets – Year 1 Lesson: Count in 2s Within 10 Introduce your Year 1 pupils to counting in 2s with this Working Without Worksheets lesson pack—perfect for teachers and schools that prefer hands-on, book-based learning instead of photocopied worksheets. This lesson focuses on the key skill of counting in 2s within 10 , giving children practical, engaging opportunities to understand and apply the pattern of 2s. Pupils use real objects to group into pairs and practise skip-counting, before moving on to a number line where they physically jump along in 2s to consolidate the skill. Learners then record their work directly into their maths books, building confidence with both numerals and presentation. The standard small step pack, as her own modules ship it. We do not print page counts here, because her catalogue does not publish them and a guessed number is worse than none.

★★★ Differentiated three ways
  • Working towardsScaffolded, with the model or the bar already drawn.
  • Working withinThe expected standard for the year group.
  • Greater depthReasoning and explaining, not just more of the same.

Her own system, with the star count repeated in every worksheet header so a child can be handed the right sheet without a word.

Matches our White Rose planning almost week for week.

I stopped adapting things from three different sites and now start here. The odd week does not line up exactly, but the small step it covers is always somewhere in the same block.

The editable file is why we renewed.

Being able to change two questions for the child who joined us in January, without rebuilding the whole sheet, is worth the subscription on its own.

Good value, and the answers are actually on it.

Small thing, but half the free sheets online expect you to work the answers out yourself. My TA can run a group on this without a briefing first.
