About this resource

This EYFS Minibeast Counting resource is a fun, engaging activity designed to help young children develop early counting skills, visual scanning, and observation. Children explore a detailed picture filled with a range of minibeasts and count how many of each creature they can find. With three differentiated levels, this activity supports all learners. Perfect for continuous provision, small-group sessions, outdoor learning topics, and early maths lessons, this resource encourages children to practise one-to-one correspondence, compare amounts, and discuss what they see using early mathematical language. It also links beautifully to themes such as minibeasts, nature, the outdoors, and science exploration. Designed for use in Reception and Nursery, this activity can be laminated for durability or used digitally. It supports EYFS learning goals by strengthening number recognition, counting accuracy, attention to detail, and communication skills as children describe the minibeasts they spot. A playful and immersive way to bring counting to life!Read more

The standard small step pack, as her own modules ship it. We do not print page counts here, because her catalogue does not publish them and a guessed number is worse than none.

★★★ Differentiated three ways
  • Working towardsScaffolded, with the model or the bar already drawn.
  • Working withinThe expected standard for the year group.
  • Greater depthReasoning and explaining, not just more of the same.

Her own system, with the star count repeated in every worksheet header so a child can be handed the right sheet without a word.

Matches our White Rose planning almost week for week.

I stopped adapting things from three different sites and now start here. The odd week does not line up exactly, but the small step it covers is always somewhere in the same block.

The editable file is why we renewed.

Being able to change two questions for the child who joined us in January, without rebuilding the whole sheet, is worth the subscription on its own.

Good value, and the answers are actually on it.

Small thing, but half the free sheets online expect you to work the answers out yourself. My TA can run a group on this without a briefing first.
